In April 2007, a local group led by Jim Nielson, began negotiations to acquire Sleeping Giant – a nearby ski area that ceased operations in 2004. The Yellowstone Recreations Foundation was established to reopen and improve this facility. Since its reopening, the Sleeping Giant Recreational Area has already become an economical family recreation destination that promotes alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and snowshoeing. Each of these winter activities encourage coordination, strength training, and cardiovascular health among youth and adults. Sleeping Giant recently added a zipline tour, making it a great destination for summer activities as well.

Our not-for-profit entity is headquartered in Cody, Wyoming, and is led by a diverse volunteer board made up of local community leaders. We currently operate Sleeping Giant Ski Area & Zipline, and have partnered with many recreational groups in the area to further expand our mission.
